Hi! I’m Sam.

I’m a Los Angeles-based writer that specializes in television, stories, and content for children and the adults who love them.

My writing style prioritizes comedy, curiosity, and inclusion. Sometimes my work is educational with a capital “E.” Other times it’s just focused on the fun. To me, both play equally important roles in the children’s media landscape.

I’ve been fortunate to wear many interesting hats throughout my career (including a banana on the set of Sesame Street. See photo for proof). All of these experiences influence my writing. I was a preschool teacher. I managed the PBS KIDS Video app. I was a producer for educational games. I studied Child Development and Art History at Tufts University. I earned my masters from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where I studied a lot of interesting things but also held a human brain in my hands (FYI, it feels how it looks. Heavy and wet). I also started teaching Child Development at Glendale Community College several years ago. Although I’ve been writing and living in LA since 2018, the zig-zags I’ve made throughout my career in production, digital, and education are foundational to my work.

When I join a writer’s room or a project team, I’m bringing a uniquely nuanced perspective. I know how children grow and what helps them thrive, but I also have a natural creative instinct for what makes them laugh and keeps them engaged.

I have always thought kids were the best humans among us, and I’ve made it my professional passion to honor them by making things worthy of their enjoyment. Now as a mom to a very cool (unbiased opinion) almost-toddler, that mission has become even more personal. While I might never finish making the viral toddler pants from that one sewing pattern I saw on social media, I can someday show my tiny person some of the shows I’ve written with him in mind. And when that day comes, my only wish is that he turns to me with perfect clarity and diction says, “Mama, no notes.”
