Sam Bissonnette is a Los Angeles-based writer specializing in comedy and animation.

Born and raised in south shore Massachusetts, Sam’s earliest memory takes place in the parking lot of a children’s dance studio, where she declared that ballet made her feel “like a bird trapped in a cage.” Impressed but slightly alarmed, Sam’s parents quickly signed their five-year-old up for soccer, where she could run and elbow other children to her heart’s content. Soon Sam channeled her energy into creative pursuits, like writing semi-autobiographical stories about girl heroes and their magical pets (samples from 1997 on request). As a teenager, Sam switched from soccer to track, but her love for Pokémon and writing remained. During high school creative writing, Sam created matching sweatshirts for her classmates in order to elevate the subject to the level of a sports team. Because nothing is more elevated than matching merchandise.

Balancing her passions for art and people, Sam studied Art History and Child Development at Tufts University, where she was recruited for Track and Field. After a brief stint as a preschool teacher, Sam pursued animation production in TV and games. She then earned a master’s from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Following her move to Los Angeles, Sam translated her unique career path into writing for animation. While in L.A., Sam has also received improv training from the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Equal parts jock and artist, Sam knows as much about the 1999 Women’s World Cup Championship team as she does the film version of Rent. In a writer’s room, Sam is a thoughtful team player who excels at crafting unique, relatable characters and challenging, emotional themes. Sam’s currently looking for her next staff or story editor role. Reach out on the contact button below.
